I went into Hudson, Michigan to the Maple Grove Cemetery. It is located off Maple Grove Ave., turning onto it left from Main Street. Once you pass the high school the road will turn into a boulevard with trees in the middle. The cemetery is right past the school, on your right.
A large cemetery, and fairly well kept, you could find yourself spending hours here looking at the various and interesting markers. Upon entering the gates, the newer part of the cemetery is to your right, while the oldest part is to your left.
It was a beautiful , sunny day, and although the grounds butt up to the softball practice field there is a sense of peace and calm over the whole place. Slight traffic noises from the occasional passing car were the only things to mar the quiet.
Some of the markers are broken, and in need of repair, and many could use a good solid cleaning, but the grounds are kept trim and neat and there is evidence of past restoration work on many of the older stones.
If you have an interest in tree stump stones, this is a good place to go, there are a lot of them. Today I was pleased to find a robin’s nest, complete with eggs, made in one of these tree stump stones. New life among the dead.
