Located in Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville KY you will find the most beautiful monument I’ve ever seen. The first time I saw it, it just took my breath way. I had to find out the story and share it with you.

This is a monument of Jesus holding the rope of a 3 year old Sami McDonald, who is swinging in a swing. They both have a smile and look like they are having a great time. Words to her favorite song “Jesus Loves Me” are etched into the granite rock. Along side her hand print are the hand prints of her Brother Jacob and her sister Becca.

Early on the day of May 2, 2006 her parents Geoff and Debi McDonald had seen her swinging and singing “Jesus Loves Me”. Sadly, she later drowned in the family swimming pool, falling in with her tricycle. Even though the pool had a fence with locks, alarms and warning lights. It was a horrible tragedy that stunned the family and friends of this darling little girl.

The stone portion of this monument was designed by Terry Joy of Joy Monuments out of Louisville, KY. Tom White of Bethel, Maine was the sculptor of the bronze parts of the monument. You can learn about his work at his website http://www.tomwhitestudio.com Tom Whites Studio.

Sami’s parents have grown prayer groups and service projects in women’s shelters and schools. Many are in middle and high school and the list is growing. You can find their website at Sam’s Rock.

If you go to visit take a pink rose, Sami’s favorite color!
